Here is an outline of the subject matter covered on the Advanced Photoshop course. The course consists of 4 three-hour modules, totaling 12 hours. In no particular order, the 12-hour course will include the following topics (as well as a quick brush-up on the basics before we get into the more in-depth topics). Don’t be afraid! Optimizing Photoshop and your PC for better performance. Information on the scratch disk, on RAM, on hard disk organization, on other techniques to make Photoshop FLY!
Sizing Images Image Size and Resolution and the relationship between pixel dimensions and printing, dispelling pixel “myths”, Using the Crop tool to manage final pixel size as well as document dimension in inches when printing
Area Selection Techniques A more focused and in-depth look at how to select objects, areas, etc within the photo using the wide variety of tools presented by Photoshop: The Rectangular and Elliptical Marquee Tools, The Lasso Tools, Saving Selections, The Magic Wand Tool, The Magnetic Lasso Tool, Modifying Selections, Selecting areas based on colour.
Batch Processing – using the powerful Actions PaletteHow to automate all of the functions that take so long to perform manually; Creating new Actions that save immense amounts of time when you are performing repetitive tasks on a group of photographs
Layers Undoing Previous Steps using History, Using the very important Adjustment Layers so as not to damage your original photo. Copying Selections, Creating Layers, Transforming Layers, Copying Layers between Images, Arranging Layers, Saving Images in Photoshop Format
Blending and Compositing Defringing, Opacity and Blending Modes, Feathering Edges
Color, Painting and Brush tool usage Selecting Colors, Painting Tools, (The Clone Stamp Tool, dodging, burning, blurring, air-brushing and more), using different colour models, eg when to use RGB, CMYK, HSB, Lab etc
Text, Layer Effects, and Filters Type Layers, Layer Effects, Filters, Merging and Flattening Layers, learning and using the variety of Filters that Photoshop offers which allow you to transform your image into the most incredible variety of simulated painting, watercolour, pencil versions of the original image.
